Southland Newcomer of the Year Mattison Buster Commits to Baylor Softball
Northwestern State right-handed pitcher Mattison Buster has committed to Baylor for the 2027 season, Baylor announced on Tuesday.
Buster, the 2026 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year and first team all-league honoree, is coming off a season where she posted a 3.17 ERA in 210 innings, striking out 116 batters and walking just 60. She threw three times more than the next pitcher on the roster and has one year of eligibility remaining.
Her greatest asset, alongside strikeouts, is home run prevention and stamina, as she threw 21 complete games and gave up just 12 home runs in 2026.
After winning five games in 2025, Buster came in and helped the Demons grab 24 victories in 2026 as she earned 21 of them.
Buster originally began her career at Louisiana Tech, where she played two seasons with the Bulldogs. In 40 total appearances, she threw 83.1 innings with a 3.28 ERA and was named to the All-Freshman Team in 2024.
She follows current Baylor assistant coaches Jenny and Brad Fuller, who moved from Northwestern State on May 29. Jenny Fuller was head coach for the previous two seasons in Natchitoches, La., while Brad was associate head coach.
