Former Bears Langeliers, Muncy Earn Starting Spots in 2026 MLB All-Star Game
Former Baylor baseball standouts, catcher Shea Langeliers of the Athletics and third baseman Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers, have been named starters for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game. The Midsummer Classic is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday, July 14, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Langeliers, 28, is a first-time All-Star and boasts a .264 batting average and an .822 OPS, good for 15th in the American League. Across 80 games played this season, he’s clubbed a team-high 20 home runs to go along with 44 RBIs and 51 runs scored. The Keller native becomes the first A’s catcher to start the Midsummer Classic since Terry Steinbach in 1988.
Meanwhile, Muncy continues to put together an incredible career, adding a third All-Star Game appearance to his resume, which includes three World Series titles; he also leads the Dodgers all-time in postseason home runs with 16. This year, the 35-year-old Muncy has posted a .264 batting average and an .861 OPS, the 16th-highest mark in the MLB. He’s also crushed 17 homers to go along with 39 RBIs across 84 contests.
Aside from Langeliers (2026) and Muncy (2019, 2021 and 2026), the last BU alumni to make an MLB All-Star Game was Jason Jennings in 2002 with the Rockies, who went on to win the National League Rookie of the Year award.
Beyond the Midsummer Classic, it could be a busy weekend for Baylor baseball as the MLB Draft is also slated for Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12. The Bears could see their star slugger, Tyce Armstrong, as well as shortstop Travis Sanders, being selected relatively high.
