Hollywood made a big deal out of it. That's the only reason you ever heard of it. That is absolutely nothing compared to the Biden AutoPen Disaster. The former hurt no one, the Auto Pen sent millions of taxpayer dollars this way or that way, abusing Americans with each stroke.

My god, they gave a medal to the only former person to work with the Nazis in WWII, George Soros. And another to Killary Clinton, one of the most despicable people to ever step into the White House.

It was the cover up after that got him. I don't think Nixon ordered the break in, if I remember correctly.

I'm ok with such a thing causing a resignation, but we are so far past that in the "legal" suppression of opposition parties, I don't know if a similar incident would move the needle anymore. Look at the wiretap of Trump communications in 2016. Not much different.

Liberals just tried to prop up a geriatric patient whom probably didn't even personally sign most of his work as President (autopen scandal)

Moreover, they only pulled him because of a jaw dropping national debate in which he could barely construct a coherent sentence… what if that debate didn't happen?

But yeah, JD Vance made a comment about Nixon. This gets really tiring with the left especially that looney tunes lefty aka FL(ooney)bear

Johnson: If we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats, y'all impeachment's not even the big concern. They will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they'll go after the president's family, the The cabinet, his donors and friends, half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. We'll take care of you.

The Watergate thing gets weirder. The initial planting of the bugs was successful and went undetected. The burglars were caught going back to take out the bugs.

If they had not tried to remove the bugs, the thing would have been a scandal when the bugs were found but there would be no link to the White House.

The security guard who found the tape over the door jam, was not known for attention to detail and discipline. There have been some stories that someone told him to look for that tape.

Watergate is a tale of many things, not least the dangers of arrogance and missing the importance of details.

People are often slow to learn such lessons.

No one from the Old Guard liked Nixon - esp after he skewered their Golden Boy - Hiss.

So yes, Watergate was someone - Howard Hunt?? - earning his keep in service to them.

Now the famous Nixon paranoia / dirty tricks and the recording system sealed his fate.....

An illegal immigrant from Honduras just got 8 years for running a $38 million payroll tax fraud scheme that helped other illegal immigrants get paid off the books.

Mario Flores and his girlfriend set up shell companies in Orlando that ran unlicensed check-cashing services for construction contractors.

The contractors paid workers in cash, skipped the payroll taxes, and dodged the laws against hiring illegal labor, all for a cut of the take.

Between 2015 and 2022 they cashed $89 million in checks. Flores alone copped to at least $9.4 million kept from the IRS.

When investigators came calling, he handed over fake receipt books and lied to IRS agents to cover it up.

His girlfriend, Iris Villafranca, pegged as the central figure, already got 17 years and the full $38 million in restitution.

True. Watergate required him to step down. His Cabinet and staff did time. That is pretty up there.

Nixon did not even know about the break in until after the fact.

Meanwhile, the Dems since then have all been unmitigated disasters with few real accomplishments but plenty of scandals:

-Carter's record as one of the r we pray presidents in history. At least he didn't have lots of scandals.
-Clinton's greatest accomplishment was to make Nixon look like a saint in comparison: Nannygate, Travelgate, and of course Monicagate. These are just the highlights. The economic successes of the late 1990s is more deff St pits Clinton than because of him. The Gingrich revolution actually produced positive results while Clinton wanted more govt control & more taxes (and thankfully was limited in what he could get).
-Obama was arguably even worse: he destroyed much of American healthcare and made it unaffordable for many. And he had many scandals: Fast & Furious, the Russia collusion hoax, paying Iran to develop nukes, IRS (Lois Lerner anyone?), etc.
-Pres Autopen's entire presidency was one continual scandal with one disaster after another: Afghanistan, his mental deficiencies, Bidenflation, open borders, pro crime, Hunter's laptop, cocaine in the White House, the FBI, etc ad nauseum.

And they all (except maybe Carter) covered up far more crimes than one idiotic burglary attempt.

True no one from the Clinton, Obama, or Biden administrations has even been prosecuted much less done time for their myriad crimes. OTOH, Pres Trump endured years of lawfare with bogus investigations and prosecutions based on madd up charges, lies, zero evidence, and a complete lack of due process (& other constitutional abuses).

The fascists only care about the law when they can abuse it against others. They are very rarely held accountable.

True. Those words appear nowhere in the original document or in any amendments. It would require a dishonest misreading of history to imply the idea was prevalent among the Founders. The phrase originated in a letter by Pres Thomas Jefferson to a group of Baptist pastors in Danberry, Connecticut and his meaning was the opposite of the way it is used today.

We are feeding Venezuala out of their oil profits. I heard that we were sending them grain from American farms, helping out our people at the same time they are getting bread

That's the same thing that Trump has proposed with Iran. Use their own frozen funds to purchase grain from farms in the USA to send to them, rather than the money

Another "broken clock is correct" thing

It's true that the phrase is not in the U.S. Constitution

And was not even mentioned as a phrase by the Supreme Court until the 20th century

The constitution forbids a single Federal-established religion. And at the same time the constitution prevents the Federal government from interfering with religious practices of the citizens and States.

It does not prevent citizens or States from attempting to democratically put ethics into law. Or even prevent the States themselves from having established churches/religions

Obviously several of the original states HAD state religions at the time of the adoption of the constitution. And would have them for years after. One State until 1833. So the Constitution technically wasn't even against States having a state religion, but THE Federal state having one.
